Died: May 13, 2012.   Operation Enduring Freedom.
Unit: 630th Engineer Company, 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, Fort Drum, NY.

Joseph L. Diaz Jr. of Burlington Township died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Fort Drum, N.Y. He was 29.
Born in Rahway, N.J., Mr. Diaz was a longtime Willingboro and Burlington Township resident.
He was a 1997 graduate of Corpus Christi grammar school, and a 2001 graduate of Burlington Township High School, where he ran cross country and track, and was a member of the National Honor Society. Mr. Diaz was a 2005 graduate of Rutgers University, where he majored in Political Science, and was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha - National Political Science Honor Society.
After working a few years in the insurance industry, he joined the U.S. Army in January of 2009, and was currently serving as an E-5/Sgt. He was deployed to Afghanistan from July 2009 to July 2010, and received numerous honors and awards including, GWTSM- Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, NCW-Army Commendation Medal, AAM- Army Achievement Medal, NDSM- National Defense Service Medal, ACM-Army Campaign, OSR-Overseas Service Ribbon, NOPDR- NCO Professional Development Ribbon. Sgt. Diaz always enjoyed running and keeping in shape.
He is survived by his parents, Jose and Patricia Diaz of Burlington Township; his sister, Sonya of Burlington Township; his maternal grandmother, Angelica Diaz of Orlando, Fla.; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Friends are invited to attend his visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 63 Sylvan Lane, Willingboro. Inurnment with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown.
