Birth: Sep. 25, 1982
Camden Camden County New Jersey, USA Death: Nov. 29, 2001, Uzbekistan Army Pvt Maria died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound - under investigation. At one point in a letter home from a US Army outpost in Uzbekistan, Gio wrote that he would like to be a Green Beret. But he also wrote that he would give anything to come home, unless he got to see some action and shoot some Taliban. Then Pvt Maria died when he was struck in the head with a bullet from his own M-4 rifle. His family took hope from the undertaker's remarks that the bullet's trajectory did not seem consistent with a suicidal rifle shot. They hope that the autopsy and the Army's final report will clear Gio's name. Burial: Calverton National Cemetery Calverton Suffolk County New York, USA Plot: Section 66, Site 861A |
