JOSEPH PATRICK GADDIS, 52, of LONG BRANCH, died Thursday, Jan. 3, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Joseph was born at MacDill AFB in Hillsborough, Fla. and grew up in Puerto Rico. He moved to Long Branch in 1975. He was an independent truck driver who most recently contracted with J.B. Hunt. He served his country honorably as a member of the Army National Guard, 42nd Infantry "Rainbow Division" and recently completed a tour in Iraq. He was reassigned to Co. D 250th Brigade and was scheduled to return to Iraq in July. He was Senior Vice Commander of VFW post 2140, Long Branch, a member of the Cooties, and a communicant of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch.

He was predeceased by his parents, Clyde and Elinor Gaddis; and a brother, Charles. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John Paul and Nicole Gaddis of Texas; his fiancee, Jeanine Sintic of Long Branch; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Arsenia Gaddis of Brick; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorine and Bob Lloyd of West Virginia; a granddaughter, Rhiannon Gaddis; his nieces and nephews, Jeannine Rivera, Marjorie Corio, Adrianne and Cristian Gaddis, Peyton and Jayden Riveria; and his beloved pet, Hope.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., on the corner of Third Avenue, Long Branch. The funeral is 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post 2140 "Support Your Troops Fund", 255 Willow Ave., Long Branch, NJ 07740. Letters of condolence, memorial candles and memorial donations may be sent to the family via our website at www.damianofuneralhome.com.
