Honor and Remember...
Following the dedication and blessing by our Chaplain Mike Schaffer, the Honor and Remember flag was raised by Gold Star Father Ken Gurbisz and the plaque was unveiled by Gold Star Mother Helen Gurbisz.
This particular flag had first been flown by MSgt Bubba Beason over his Compound in Afghanistan in 2010 on Pearl Harbor Day. The flag then traveled to Iraq where the 4th Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division flew it over Camp Ramadi. On it's return it became the first Honor and Remember flag to be carried by our core run team through NJ for the 2011 NJ Run for the Fallen. We are now committed to continuously fly the Honor and Remember flag at the NJ Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Holmdel. Those present included our Chaplain Mike Schaffer, Gold Star Parents Ken and Helen Gurbisz, Gold Star Mom Cindy Malmo, Warriors Watch Riders Coordinator Ed "Tug" Devine, members of Holmdel Fire and Rescue Company #2 and NJRFTF President Mike Simpson.
The following day, on Sunday October 16th, 2011 the American Legion Riders held their 1st Annual NJ Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Ride to benefit the NJ Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation and the Vietnam Era Museum and Educational Center. During the ceremony three wreaths were laid at the flagpole to honor our Gold Star Mothers and Families.
