Honor and Remember Heroes of Other Conflicts

On the morning of Sunday September 30, 2012, the Run will stop at the VFW Post 4715 in Point Pleasant to Honor and Remember the 18 NJ Heroes from the Barracks bombing in Beirut, Lebanon, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Gothic Serpent, Somalia. The Team will present individual Bios and flags to Honor and Remember these NJ Heroes.

Incident: Died of injuries suffered when his Bradley fighting vehicle came under friendly fire from allied aircraft..

Sidenote...

Major Rossi was the first woman in United States history to serve as an Aviation Commander during combat, and the first woman pilot in United States history to fly in combat during the Gulf War in 1991.

Operation Gothic Serpent, Somalia

Pfc. Domingo Arroyo
Hometown: Elizabeth, NJ.
Age: 21 years old.
Died: January 13th, 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia, Operation Gothic Serpent.
Unit: 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division
Incident: Killed when his patrol was ambushed by Somalia gunmen near Mogadishu's airport.

Spc. Dominick M Pilla
Hometown: Vineland, NJ.
Age: 21 years old.
Died: October 3rd, 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia, Operation Gothic Serpent.
Unit: Company B, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Ft. Benning, Ga.
Incident:Killed whilst attempting to rescue a fellow Ranger.

Spc. James E Smith
Hometown: Long Valley, NJ
Died: October 3rd, 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia, Operation Gothic Serpent.
Unit: Company B, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Ft. Benning, Ga.
Incident: Died from injuries suffered whilst attempting to rescue a team member.

Both SPC Pilla and SPC Smith were portrayed by actors in the movie Black Hawk Down.
